Parents at the park

I remember when my cousin Fanney came to visit me at my apartment in Asbru. There was a playground next to the apartment, and she thought it was strange that there were benches all around the park. So we got to talking about how American parents always go with their kids to the park, and watch them the whole time. Whereas Icelandic parents send the kids to go out and play by themselves.

I think there are more parents than kids at the park here in Walnut Creek today.

I think that may be a more recent phenomenon in the U.S. When I was a kid we were sent out to play and that is what we did. How could you have any fun with your parents watching everything you do?
