Commercials

Having spent a few minutes watching American television this morning (Headline News to be specific), I am reminded of the amazing frequency with which American television interrupts their programming with commercials. The Icelandic way of showing a program all the way through is definitely nicer.

Haha.. I love the pharmaceutical commercials in the U.S. Because of the laws they have to give full disclosure of the side effects of prescription drugs like some antidepressants. I love when they read while showing happy well-adjusted people: "side effects may include nausea, somnolence, insomnia, dry mouth, headache and dizziness. If you should suddenly feel suicidal please contact your doctor."

It's a dilemma for the advertisers.

The side affect they "had to" mention for viagra is perhaps the most memorable part of the commercial (Cue fast, soft spoken tone) Contact your doctor if you experience dizziness, headaches, or an erection lasting more than 4 hours."

What drives me nuts is the constant droning of "music" in the background. Thank goodness for the mute button!
